Synopsis
Born with cerebral palsy, Mui (Fish Liew) makes a living as a painter and maintains a cheerful disposition, sharing a life in the city with a group of wheelchair-using friends who pursue freedom and joy in their own ways. However, her world is shaken when her overprotective mother plans to arrange a hysterectomy for her, challenging her understanding of her own body and forcing her to confront the question: does her body truly belong to her?
Encouraged by her close friend, Mui begins to explore the possibilities of sex and intimacy. Through a self-organized group that provides sexual services for people with disabilities, she meets Ken (Carlos Chan), a sexual assistant volunteer. Starting from a relationship defined by service and receiving, the two gradually develop an emotional bond through repeated encounters. Their relationship unfolds between tenderness and ambiguity, slowly blurring the boundaries of morality, physicality, and emotion, making the definition of “love” increasingly complex and difficult to define.
Fish Liew won the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress for her performance in this film, delivering a deeply layered and restrained portrayal of a character navigating bodily limitation, autonomy, and emotional desire. The film adopts a calm and empathetic perspective, depicting the intersections of bodily politics and intimacy, while posing an unresolvable question: when a relationship begins from an unequal foundation, can it still become a form of true love?
